Bio of Rich R.
Email: rich@reedinsurance.net
I was born and grew up in Southern
California. Other than my time in the Army; and three and a half years in
Scottsdale, Arizona (one of my many jobs); my whole life has been spent in
those environs.
The Army: In 1965, Uncle Sam suggested he could
use my services so I enlisted in the Army, where I spent almost three years:
Boot camp at Fort Polk near Lake Charles, Louisiana; Intelligence Corps
training at Fort Holabird in Baltimore, Maryland; and Korean language training
at Presidio of Monterey in Monterey, California. All this took about 20
months, then I spent 13 months in Pusan, Korea, and was discharged upon my
return Stateside. You know, I'm not sure Sam got his money's worth, but it
sure was a great experience for me.
While I was in the Army I became engaged to Pat
Dunnigan, and after I was discharged we were married (December 30, 1967) (36+
years ago). I have lived happily ever after. We have two great "kids"
(Leila's 34, Jeff's 32) and two great grandkids (Miranda's 5, Logan's 3). I
could go on about these people, but I guess I won't. Here, anyway.
Anyway, after the Army and our wedding, I finally
went to work - in the insurance business! I was a health claims examiner for
eight years, then I got really bored so I went into advertising, where I spent
the next 24 years. This was far longer than I had a right to expect and, after
my last layoff (2001), I realized I better find some other way to make some
money. Well, I'd kept up a friendship with one of my buddies from the ad biz -
one Jeff Greenberg - and one day he got tired of me carping and suggested I
talk to Mike Wedeking. Mike listened to me for as long as he could take it,
then suggested I talk to Ian Rednall, who was also kind. I took my first lead
on September 10, 2003, and the rest, as they say, is history.
I've been a reader all my life, mostly history, mostly military history,
mostly American military history; and the American frontier; and, from time
to time, novels (both good and trashy). I've got way too many books (my
wife's point of view) and not nearly enough books (my point of view). If you
want to know how to reach my heart, think books. (And food that isn't good
for me.)
I live in Torrance (near Los Angeles) and work at
home with my wife (whose jobs are to do HUGE amounts of work, and to make
sure I don't make too many mistakes) in what was briefly our guest bedroom.
Are we making it? Boy, I sure hope so.
