I was born the youngest of
three in a blue-collar working class family in The Bronx, New York. I looked
up to my older brothers, 6 and 8 years older than me. I graduated high
school, and stayed in NY for college, receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in speech
therapy from CCNY. Continuing on I finished my Master’s Degree in audiology
from CUNY at age 22. I always say that New York is a great place to be from
and a great place to visit, but I was ready to move on and so I
said….”California here I come” and moved to Los Angeles.
My first job was as an
audiologist as I began my adult life in sunny Southern California. I love the
outdoors and the weather can’t be beat. As we like to say, it’s another
monotonously beautiful day…. although sometimes it gets a little shaky- just
to keep us on our toes.
I met my husband, Lenny here
in LA. We had a whirlwind courtship and were married in less than a year.
Twenty-two years later I can still say we did it right. We have two wonderful
children, Brian and Rachel. When Brian came along, I left my job to be a
stay-at-home Mom. I was fortunate to be home with my children for all of
their young lives. Although our family is across the country, we are very
close. We talk all the time and visit as often as we can.
I chose to go back to work
part-time about seven years ago. I took a job as the Finance Manager of a
non-profit mental health center. It was a busy and exciting position as we
saw over 500 clients per week and we were a training center for therapists.
Lenny kept asking me to quit and come and work with him, but I guess I just
wasn’t ready. I was enjoying my second career too much.
Well, that all changed last
January. I left my job and came home to work full time with Lenny and OFG. I
spend part of my day talking to agents about OFG and part of my day managing
Lenny’s business and paperwork (he is one of those agents with OFG). So I
guess I have just started my third career. I feel as though I have just moved
into a whole new phase of my life. My son is away at college, and my daughter
has one more year of High School before she goes away. So we are soon to be
empty nesters.
It’s a good thing that Lenny
and I enjoy working together as we spend a lot of each day together! We have
less time constraints with both of us home. We get to walk every day in the
hills around our home. We both feel fortunate to be able to work at home and
be together. We have applied to raise a guide dog puppy (I guess we’ll have
more free time with no kids at home). We will be traveling more, and we are
starting this year with a trip to Cancun, and then a cruise to Alaska. I hope
what’s still to come is as wonderful as what has gone before. I feel blessed
to have such a wonderful life. I think the best is yet to come.
